The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund (GTF) is a non-denominational, non-profit (501 C-3) organization dedicated exclusively to raising funds and providing logistical support for Ak’ Tenamit: an indigenous Q’eqchi Maya community development association based in the rainforests of eastern Guatemala. The GTF supports Ak’ Tenamit’s work to improve health, education, family incomes and the situation of women in dozens of isolated indigenous communities. Ak’ Tenamit runs an innovative health program, a secondary school that teaches practical skills, small business management, and community development, and promotes the education of indigenous girls.

The GTF raises funds, coordinates material donations, and provides logistical support for Ak’ Tenamit. We arrange student sponsorships, healthcare partnerships and other donations, coordinating with Rotary Clubs, schools, churches, foundations, and individual donors. We also arrange presentations and publish a newsletter about Ak’ Tenamit.

GTF coordinates donations and volunteer teams that help the Q’eqchi Maya with an array community development projects in their remote and impoverished villages. Those projects have included building latrines, or water systems, school refurbishment, or construction, organization and training of handicraft cooperatives, and donation of corn mills, family water filters and other interventions to improve the health, productivity and wellbeing of rural indigenous families. Ak’ Tenamit’s innovative education program is transforming the region it serves by helping indigenous girls complete school and providing a practical, hands-on, secondary education for Q’eqchi Maya youth that includes training in sustainable agriculture, tourism, and entrepreneurship while instilling a commitment in students to help their people rise out of poverty. GTF coordinates student sponsorships, provides school supplies and other donations that have helped hundreds of indigenous children become the first people in their families to study beyond elementary school. GTF supports Ak’ Tenamit’s efforts to provide medical care to indigenous communities in the rain forests of eastern Guatemala through its riverside clinic, floating dental clinic, and medical teams that visit 124 remote Q’eqchi Maya villages every month. GTF solicits and transfers cash and in-kind donations of medicines and equipment that enable Ak’ Tenamit’s international medical volunteers, indigenous technicians and village health promoters to provide basic healthcare to more than 26,000 people for less than $15 per patient per year.
